Workplace & World Lab
Workplace and World Lab (Lab for short) is a relational space for transformative learning. The cohort model of Lab helps students solve problems, learn from others, reflect knowledge back to each other, and find a sense of belonging. Within Lab each semester, CU students develop, refine and implement a rigorous project that they can work on over the course of their time at College Unbound. These projects are a foundation for the student’s learning plan and provide opportunities for the student to explore and master content, skills, and reasoning in all aspects of their life. In concert with the 3hr student-centered learning space, regular individual meetings between faculty and each student provide personal advising, planning, and reflection time around the entire CU experience.
Personal Learning Plan
A guide for student ownership of learning through ongoing goal setting and planning.
Personal Learning Network
The team that ensures encouragement, relevance, depth, validity, accountability and integration. When it comes to learning, this is the team that keeps it real and makes it possible.
Core Project
A student-driven, action research project grounded in the impact students want to have in their community and in their life as leaders and change-makers.

An ongoing process of student presentation and reflection on their Core Projects, from the first semester to the last.
Big 10 Transformational Learning Competencies
The Big 10 are demonstrated degree program outcomes through portfolio credit. Lab Faculty are the first assessors of their cohort’s Big 10s.
Student Advising
Lab Faculty are the academic advisors of the students in their cohort. Lab Faculty advise students on degree requirements and guide them in choosing courses and learning experiences that will facilitate project development and the most meaningful and efficient path to degree completion. This includes activities such as 1:1 meetings throughout each semester, communication with instructional faculty around student engagement, review of student PLPs, supporting student Personal Learning Network development, directing students to CU support systems, supportive coaching, guidance on Big 10 portfolios and Learning in Public portfolios, etc.
